#atozchallenge: Inconceivable

inconceivable

Nearly everyone has seen the 1987 movie The Princess Bride (and if you haven’t, you should), and knows that "inconceivable" is the favorite word of Vizzini (played by Wallace Shawn).

Eventually, Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin) calls him on it.

Well, actually, Inigo, it does. Other ways of saying it are "impossible," "out of the question," and "unimaginable." Those would probably better than "inconceivable," given the circumstances.

They wouldn’t be as funny, though, which is what they were going for here.

  1. Oh, one of my FAVORITE movies ever! Hilarious. That guy who says it is also in My Dinner With Andre. Wrote it. Pretty interesting thing, too. Not funny, or much, of course.

  2. Inconceivable is a good word. Maybe I should see The Princess Bride again. I saw it many years ago and didn’t care for it that much, but it gets so much acclaim. I must have missed something.

    1. I saw it the night before we moved to Atlanta, when we should have been on our way here but they didn’t have a moving van. I was not in especially good mood when I saw it…
