I saw this picture and all I could think of was the old McDonalds commercials and the way the animated hamburgers looked…
I used to work in Oak Brook, Illinois, not far from the international headquarters of McDonalds, the location of Hamburger U. It was across the street from Oakbrook Centre, a very big outdoor shopping mall. In the corner of the parking lot of the mall, there was a McDonalds where they test-marketed all of the new products they were considering unleashing on the general populace. I think you could get anything but a hamburger there.
You know what I think would have been a great thing for them to sell? Liver McNuggets…
By the way, the person providing the voice for the Hamburglar is none other than Howard Morris, best known by people of my generation as Ernest T. Bass from The Andy Griffith Show.

Christine runs Simply 6 Minutes.
I remember this commercial. I remember the ones from the 70s and Hamburgler was my favourite

Oakbrook Center was one of my favorite places when I was a kid. I loved shopping there.

I worked about a mile from there, at Butterfield and Meyers Road. I bought a couple of suits at Baskin’s in the mall, and there was a restaurant there that served Sunday brunch all day, until almost 5 PM. I lived near its twin, Old Orchard, when I was in high school…

The last time I was at Oakbrook was in 1977, when my fiancé and I went there to buy our wedding bands.
The last time I was at Old Orchard was ten years earlier, when a friend and I went there to see “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.”
Ah, memories…

With the recently-deceased Robert Morse, Michelle Lee, and Rudy Vallee? I saw that on TV a few years ago. Excellent movie.

Wow! First of all I have never seen that commercial but secondly it has been so many years since I saw a McDonalds commercial with the talking characters. I was always afraid of Ronald. I hate clowns. Anyhow, after you said this I was thinking how much the flowers had the shape of Grimace. Wasn’t that the purple one? Wow, blast from the past.

Yes, Grimace was the tall purple one, always drinking shakes.

That’s right! The shakes! The strawberry shakes were my favorite. Now they don’t have the same consistency or flavor.

There’s no milk in them! Chick-Fil-A, Five Guys, Steak n Shake all have milk in them. Let a McDonalds shake sit long enough, it congeals…

I know there are locations in other states than Florida but not sure where. Apparently, custard is made like ice cream but it uses a lot less sugar. I love it. It is like soft serve. Of course I also love getting all the crap mixed in but honestly my favorite is vanilla with strawberries and raspberries. I’m sure they are soaked in sugar too but I think they might be better than reese’s peanut butter cups!

Apparently there are a few within 5 miles of home. Maybe if we get out that way we’ll stop…
