Back Down Under for this week’s survey. 6PM started broadcasting in 1937 at 1000 AM, switched to Top 40 in the ’60’s, moving to 990 AM. On December 31, 1990 they moved to 92.9 FM, then in December 2020 became MMM, all the while playing mainstream rock. Here’s their survey from May 2, 1984.
- Cold Chisel, “Saturday Night”
- Cyndi Lauper, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”
- Thompson Twins, “Hold Me Now”
- Kenny Loggins, “Footloose”
- Nik Kershaw, “Wouldn’t It Be Good”
- Billy Idol, “Rebel Yell”
- Frankie Goes To Hollywood, “Relax”
- Bette Midler, “Beast Of Burden”
- INXS, “I Send A Message”
- Nena, “99 Luftballons”
And that’s Top Ten Tuesday for May 3, 2022.
I don’t know 1 or 9 and not a fan of those but loved the rest. I remember wondering why the Thompson Twins were called that dance it was 3 of them and they were not twins. I love Bette and do wished I could have seen her in concert. Good ole Nina mit dem Luft Balloons and her hairy armpits. Europe never shaved like the eonen do here. Love remembering dancing to these songs

Maybe they called themselves that for that very reason…

I remember most of these! A great selection of songs.

I hadn’t heard several of these. Sometimes it’s good to take a survey from outside the country, because you get a different perspective.

Yes, I agree. Even in the US, some songs were more popular in certain regions than others.

I remember a few of these, as I was officially becoming the target audience of “oldies” stations.
