Trumpeter and bandleader Maynard Ferguson was born on this day in 1928. "Invitation" is from his 1976 album Primal Scream. It was written by Bronislaw Kaper with lyrics by Paul Francis Weber originally for the 1950 movie A Life Of Her Own starring Lana Turner and Ray Milland. It became a jazz standard when it was used as theme song for the 1952 movie of the same name starring Van Johnson, Dorothy McGuire, and Ruth Roman. It’s Kaper’s second best-known song after "On Green Dolphin Street," which he wrote for the 1947 movie Green Dolphin Street. Ferguson gives it a funkier beat.
Not one for this Disco jazzy version. I bet it was on many KTel records alongside Disco Duck.:))
