Song of the Day: Rick Derringer, “Frankenstein (Smooth Frank)”

Guitarist and producer Rick Derringer was born on this day in 1947. He was a member of The McCoysin the mid-to-late Sixties before moving on to produce Johnny and Edgar Winter, joining The Edgar Winter Geoup in the mid-Seventies, replacing Ronnie Montrose. “Frankenstein (Smooth Frank)” is a smooth-jazz version of The Edgar Winter Group’s hit from 1973; it’s from his 2002 album Free Ride.

    1. He did all right oin this. No one could play it like Edgar Winter. He wrote specifically to show off his ability on several instruments. Anyone else just couldn’t handle it.
