Share Your World For 8 (9) Aug 2022

Prayers and good thoughts go out to Melanie…. I was disappointed yesterday that the SYW prompts weren’t out there yesterday, then I checked her blog and saw that she hadn’t posted since last Friday, at which point I knew something was wrong. I learned today that she had ended up in the hospital (the last place you want to end up in if you’re ailing) but is evidently back home taking it easy. Take care of yourself, Melanie, and we’ll see you when we see you.

Fortunately, Di has the keys this week, so …

When you’re on holiday, do you prefer self catering or a hotel/B&B? Definitely a hotel or B&B, although I used to stay at Residence Inns on occasion when I was on the road all the time and could cook for myself, which could be nice as well.

Do you have a favourite meal you cook for yourself or order when out? Eating out, I like chicken tenders and order them almost all the time because I can eat them with my fingers (I know, it’s impolite: you should eat the fingers separately). At home, we cook up Home Run Inn pizza: Made in Chicago, frozen and shipped to Publix, where we buy them frozen. As a side note, frozen pizza used to be gross, but not any more.

In the current fuel crisis, have you made a conscious effort not to use the car unless absolutely necessary? Not a conscious effort: we don’t go out much. Mary barely puts ten miles on the van each week and sometimes much less. We’re homebodies and that’s where you’ll usually find us.

If you were to compare yourself to a plant, what would you be? A weed, which is just an unfortunately-placed flower.

I am lucky to have a lot of happy memories from my childhood. Please share one from yours. There are just so many of them… I remember Dad taking us out for ice cream the night before we started school one year. We went to an ice cream stand in Evanston, I believe, and while it was still warm I remember it was kind of breezy. I’m thinking it was in 1965, because we still had our ’59 Biscayne with the hole in the floor of the back seat….

I typed inn “Chevy Biscayne,” and I got all kinds of Chevy Chase GIF’s, so I decided to go with the flow.

Until next week…

It’s pretty astounding what has happened with frozen pizzas! I remember them when I was a kid and, honestly, the cardboard boxes they came in were probably about as flavorful as the pizzas were. But today? No way, Jose… or Leonardo!

My favorite (and my Brother’s favorite) is the Private Selection (Kroger’s fancier label) French Goat Cheese & Marinated Vegetable thin crust pizza. I can get it for just under $6. They actually come from Germany, which seems a bit odd for pizza, but… the proof is in the eating.

Of course, not everyone is going to like goat cheese with its very strong (“herbal”? “earthy”?) flavor, but for those who do, this pizza is a must-try. I think this frozen French Goat Cheese pizza is way better than MANY fresh-made pizzas I’ve had in my lifetime.

With inflation attacking everything lately, it seems like maybe just recently they’ve started to skimp a little bit on the toppings, rather than raise the price, but I still thinks it’s exceptional for a frozen pizza.

  2. As I’ve said before in this space, we are bg Home Run Inn frozen pizza Fans. We always bought Classic Sausage until recently. Walmart was out of Classic Sausage, so we tried Marghareta With Sausage and now that’s all we buy. It has more of a Tomato taste which we like. You might try it.

    1. I’ll tell Mary about it. Usually when she can’t get the sausage she gets the four-meat, and sometimes just plain cheese. The Margherita sounds a mite tasty…

  3. When I was on the road with my wife and kids I’d try to hit a Residence Inn or the like if we were staying more than a couple days. Often I’d even cook in regular rooms because we carried a crock pot and lots of kitchen stuff. Now with just my wife and I we have no desire to cook in a room.

I try not to drive that much. When my wife goes to her daughter’s house I might stay in the house for days if I have enough groceries on hand. Driving when gas is $6 a gallon as it is where I am is too much of an unneeded expense, though I’d love to cruise around if it weren’t so expensive.

    1. When I was on the road, there was generally no way to cook at the hotel (some didn’t even have a microwave for guest use). That’s why I would cook at Residence Inn. But not every night…
