Song of the Day: Nick Lucas, “I’m Looking Over A Four-Leaf Clover”

Guitarist and singer Nick Lucas was born on this day in 1897. Gibson Guitars made him a signature concert guitar with a deeper body for better sound; the outline of that guitar became the basis for the Les Paul guitar. Lucas is also credited with coming up with the standard shape guitar pick that’s used by most guitar players to this day. This recording of “I’m Looking Over A Four-Leaf Clover” is from 1922.

  1. Well, that was fun hearing an oldie like that! I can’t remember the last time I heard that song but it put a smile on my face immediately. Thanks for a great start to my day, John!

    1. I heard a story about the song: when it first came out in 1927 (in the very early days of radio), there was a station that played it over and over because people kept calling and asking for it. You couldn’t get away with that under current FCC regulations, but there was no FCC back then. Anyway, glad I could brighten your day…
