Song of the Day: Rick Astley, “Together Forever”

Matt Aitken, one third of the Stock Aitken Waterman (SAW) songwriting and production team, was born on this day in 1956 (the same year I was). They produced and/or written songs for a number of British artists in the ’80’s and early ’90’s, including Kylie Minogue, Bananarama, Jason Donovan, Donna Summer, Band Aid (“Do They Know It’s Christmas?”), and Rick Astley, whose two #1 hits in the US, “Never Gonna Give You Up” and “Together Forever,” were produced by SAW. Here is the latter of the two, done live in Houston this past May.

  1. It’s funny how loving Rick Astley (in Australia anyway) is kind of dorky, but I happily stick my hand up as a fan. Probably helps I am a child of the 80s.

  2. Another great song from the MTV era. This is one of those songs everyone danced to at discos. It had a great rich sound to it and I’ll never forget how surprised I was to see Rick Ashley was a thin white guy with red hair with the voice of Barry White! LOL!!

    1. Even Mary, who’s not much of a pop fan, likes Rick Astley’s voice. He’s kept the voice even as he’s gotten older. His later songs are really good….
