Happy 78th birthday to Archie Bell, lead singer and front man for Archie Bell & The Drells, one of the main acts on Gamble and Huff’s Philadelphia International Records. They had eight Top 20 hits on the R&B chart, half of which were Top Ten hits. Their first single, “Tighten Up,” was the title track on their first album, and reached #1 on the Hot 100 and the R&B chart in 1968.
This is a good song and one I never heard of.

I guess people who lived near a US radio station could hear it (e.g Detroit, Erie PA, Buffalo NY), but you were a little farther than that. , I think….

In the mid eighties I worked as a stock person in a printing place…had the radio on 96.3 the oldies channel in Nashville at the time…that is where I learned a lot about the 50s and 60s music like this. Fun music.

It was popular on Fox 97 (our old oldies station), too. As they used to say on American Bandstand, it had a good beat and you could dance to it.
