Danny Hutton, one of the three lead singers with Three Dog Night and the only one still with the band, was born 80 years ago today. “Liar” was written by Russ Ballard of the band Argent, who recorded it for their 1970 debut album and released it as a single that year, but it failed to chart. Three Dog Night, with Danny Hutton singing the lead vocal, recorded it for their fifth album, 1970’s Naturally. It reached #7 in the US and #4 in Canada in 1971.
Love this song. There are do many songs I know but are not played on the radio much any more.

Even the oldies stations have their limited playlists. Sixty years of music distilled down to 50 songs. Drives me crazy…

I got their greatest hits in 1978….my mom bought it for me from a tv commercial. I read somewhere…and this can be wrong…but I remember something about them recording the vocals in a bathroom for this song.

It wouldn’t surprise me in the least. Certainly sounds like it was.
