Song of the Day: Three Dog Night, “Liar”

Danny Hutton, one of the three lead singers with Three Dog Night and the only one still with the band, was born 80 years ago today. “Liar” was written by Russ Ballard of the band Argent, who recorded it for their 1970 debut album and released it as a single that year, but it failed to chart. Three Dog Night, with Danny Hutton singing the lead vocal, recorded it for their fifth album, 1970’s Naturally. It reached #7 in the US and #4 in Canada in 1971.

  1. I got their greatest hits in 1978….my mom bought it for me from a tv commercial. I read somewhere…and this can be wrong…but I remember something about them recording the vocals in a bathroom for this song.
