Another one of those call-letter sagas: KPOI is now an FM station, “105.9 The Wave, Hawaii’s Relaxing Favorites.” The station that had been KPOI-AM at 1380 kHz is now KLHT, “K-Light 1040 AM,” broadcasting a Christian format. No word on what’s going on at 1380 AM… anyway, KPOI-AM was a Top 40 station from 1962 to 1974. Here’s their Top Ten from September 15, 1965.
- Herman’s Hermits, “Just A Little Bit Better”
- The Castaways, “Liar, Liar”
- Gerry & The Pacemakers, “Give All Your Love To Me”
- Sonny & Cher, “I Got You Babe”
- The Beatles, “Yesterday”
- James Brown, “Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag”
- The Turtles, “It Ain’t Me, Babe”
- Sonny (Bono), “Laugh At Me”
- The Dave Clark 5, “Catch Us If You Can”
- The Beatles, “Help!”
And that’s Top Ten Tuesday for September 13, 2022.
What a great list and love the 2nd song so much. I haven’t heard it in eons. The singer from Gerry & THE Pacemakers sounds like a young Wayne Newton to me

Gerry Marsden (the Gerry in Gerry & The Pacemakers) does sound a lot like Wayne Newton, now that you mention it.
I’ve always liked “Liar, Liar.”

Not surprised to see the Beatles listed twice in the top ten
And the song “just a little bit better ” plays now and it is so “60s” to me…

This was the first week “Yesterday” was on the chart (it had been released two days before) and it opened in the Top 10. That’s amazing.

Great list, John. I have to admit, the first three had me stumped, but 4-10 are clear memories.

Several of these were new to me. I remember “Liar Liar” pretty well, though…
