Song of the Day: John Prine, “Souvenirs”

Singer-songwriter John Prine was born on this day in 1946. John, Steve Goodman, and Bonnie Koloc were considered the three primary Illinois-based folk singers in the late ’60’s and ’70’s, a time when you could walk into any coffeehouse in the Chicago area and hear some tremendous folk music. “Souvenirs” first appeared on John’s 1972 album Diamonds In The Rough; he and Steve Goodman did the song on Steve’s last studio album, 1984’s Affordable Art. This performance was from 2001 video album John Prine – Live from Sessions at West 54th.
