Sam Moore, one-half of the vocal duo Sam & Dave, member of the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, The Grammy Hall Of Fame, and the Vocal Group Hall Of Fame, turns 87 today. His duet with Conway Twitty on Tony Joe White’s “A Rainy Night In Georgia” was recorded for the 1994 album Rhythm, Country, And Blues. This song has always been a personal favorite, and this version second only to Brook Benton’s 1970 version.

This is good I surprise myself saying that since I don’t care for Twitty. I do prefer the original though.

I think Brook Benton’s version is the definitive one, but Sam and Conway did a great one and seemed to really enjoy working together.

This song is a favorite of mine, as well. This version has a lot of feeling in it – beautiful.
