Song of the Day: The Singing Nun, “Dominique”

Belgian singer-songwriter Jeanine Deckers, also known as Sister Luc Gabriel, OP, “Soeur Sourire (Sister Smile),” and The Singing Nun, was born on this day in 1932. She left the convent in the 1970’s in a crisis of faith, though remaining a Catholic. “Dominique,” the Belgian-French anthem to St. Dominic, reached #1 on the Hot 100 in 1963.

  1. Hi John- I enjoyed and still do enjoy this song – so sad she killed herself. Now it’s even sadder! – Hilary

    1. I had the album, and she was a pretty good songwriter. She really got screwed over by the record company, and it’s little wonder that she killed herself.
