Song of the Day: Dory Previn, “(Theme From) Valley Of The Dolls”

Singer-songwriter, lyricist and poet Dory Previn was born on this day in 1925. She and her husband André Previn wrote the theme song for the 1967 movie Valley Of The Dolls, which starred Barbara Parkins, Patty Duke, Sharon Tate, Susan Hayward, Paul Burke, and Lee Grant. While Dionne Warwick sang the song for the single, Dory sang it for the movie, backed by John Williams, who did the remaining music.

    1. I love Dionne Warwick, but I like Dory’s version of the song better.

Do you know when Williams went from “Johnny” to “John”? I think he was still using Johnny when he did all the Irwin Allen disaster movies. Maybe around “Star Wars”?
