WJOY (1230 AM) was started in 1945 by the Vermont Broadcasting Corporation to provide Top 40 music for the Burlington, Vermont area. The station is still there, playing adult standards and soft adult contemporary music, provided by Westwood One’s “America’s Best Music” syndicated radio. They were doing Top 40 in 1957; here’s what was on their survey 65 years ago tomorrow.
- The Rays, “Silhouettes”
- Elvis Presley, “Jailhouse Rock”
- Johnny Mathis, “The Twelfth Of Never”
- Jimmie Rodgers, “Honeycomb”
- The Bobbettes, “Mr. Lee”
- Elvis Presley, “Treat Me Nice”
- Jane Morgan & The Troubadors, “Fascination”
- The Everly Brothers, “Wake Up, Little Susie”
- Perry Como, “Just Born (To Be Your Baby)”
- Edmundo Ros & His Orchestra, “Melodie d’Amour”
And that’s Top Ten Tuesday for October 24, 2022.
Love this version of silhouettes. Herman’s Hermits is more familiar to me, but this is nice. Although this was the year after I was born, I am familiar with quite a few!

Same here: I knew most of these. I’ve always liked The Rays’ version of “Silhouettes”; I think it’s the original. I like Herman’s Hermits’ version, too…

That’s the idea behind Top Ten Tuesday: I look at the ARSA website (http://las-solanas.com/arsa/) for a survey that fits the criteria (month and day around the day I do this, and lately I’ve been going through the states in the US in reverse alphabetical order), then I build a countdown of their Top Ten. Next week: Utah!
