Jazz trumpeter, composer, arranger, and bandleader Neal Hefti was born 100 years ago today. He was a composer and arranger for the Count Basie Orchestra and the Woody Herman Orchestra, wrote a number of movie and TV themes, including the themes for The Odd Couple and Batman. Here’s the latter.
This is a great theme and I wish Julie Newmar would have had a dance to this in her costume I’m not gay but she looked great and she was a professional dancer.

Such a great, memorable theme song, and a pretty good show too.

Ha! memories of a German student who stayed with us in 1966 when this was very popular over here. She cried when she had to go home as there would be ‘no Batman’.

I love this as a rock song also. The Who covered this back in the 60s…but yea this is the version I’ll always love.

I like the Who’s version!
The Marketts had a hit with it:
Los Straitjackets did a great version…

I really like the Marketts version of it as well! First time I ever heard it.

I’m surprised… The Marketts also did “Out Of Limits”…

Oh yea! That is the one where Rod Serling sued them for playing his theme at the start…I forgot all about that.

Mary’s theory is that a great TV series starts with a great theme song. I have to agree…
