Blues singer Sippie Wallace was born Beulah Belle Thomas on this day in 1898. She left show business in the 1930’s and became a church organist and choir director in Detroit, eventually returning to blues in the 1960’s during that decade’s "folk boom." She was a big influence on singer Bonnie Raitt. "Women Be Wise" was the title track of her 1966 album, and was covered by Ms. Raitt for her first album in 1971.
Great song but what a voice.

That song was great, john
And sitting here with the hubs when it came on and he was like “what song is that?”
We both smiled at the song theme and also both admired Sippie Wallace and her amazing voice!
Thanks for sharing this toda🎶🎶

Bonnie Raitt made the song popular, but Bonnie doesn’t have Sippie’s voice (which Bonnie herself would tell you).
