Song of the Day: John Barry, “Midnight Cowboy”

British film composer and conductor and harmonicist John Barry was born John Barry Prendergast on this day in 1933. He composed much of the music for the James Bond movies and won five Academy Awards, two for Born Free and one each for The Lion In Winter, Dances With Wolves, and Out Of Africa. He also wrote much of the music for Midnight Cowboy; white Toots Thielemans played harmonica for the movie soundtrack, Barry plays it here in a 1981 episode of TopPop.

    1. There are so many great composers that a lot of people don’t know, or they might have heard of them but don’t realize the music they’ve written. I’m glad to see that those people are getting the recognition they deserve.
