Blues and jazz pianist, singer and songwriter Mose Allison was born on this day in 1927. He was an influence to people like Jimi Hendrix, J. J. Cale, the Yardbirds, the Rolling Stones, Tom Waits, and Pete Townshend. "Your Mind Is On Vacation" is the title track from his 1976 album.
I knew I knew his name… Young Man Blues! That is what I remember him by the most.

He got his start in the late ’50’s playing straight-ahead instrumental jazz and added blues (which is closely related to jazz) and vocals later. Recorded for almost 60 years… and few people really knew him.

I didn’t John until I posted on The Who’s Young Man Blues. That is how I knew his name.

I like this and can see why he is so influential. The bluesy music seems to be opposite from his smooth voice.

He was very good. He does blues and jazz, and the voice goes with both. He’s one of those musicians where you had to go look for him, because he didn’t make it to the radio too often.

Sometimes I think my mind takes a vacation 😁
That said, this is a nice song I don’t think I’ve heard before.

Mose Allison didn’t get a lot of airplay. He’s one of those guys you have to look for.
