Song of the Day: Freddie & The Dreamers, “I’m Telling You Now”

Freddie Garrity, lead singer and frontman for the British Invasion group Freddie & The Dreamers, was born on this day in 1936. His birth year was listed as 1940 to make him appear to be younger. His trademarks were his horn-rimmed glasses, his skinny body, his dancing and jumping around, often accompanied by maniacal laughter. "I’m Telling You Now" was a #1 hit in the US, Canada, and the UK in 1963. This performance was taken from the Merv Griffin Show.

  1. I loved this group when they came out. The Freddy was quite a phenomena for a season. Even my father got a kick out of the silliness of the group and he was definitely not a rock music fan.
