From 2017, a Stream of Consciousness Saturday post, for Flashback Friday…
Thanks to Linda, this song is now running through my head.
Psssssst! didn’t actually clean your hair, from what I gather: it was talcum powder mixed with alcohol and put in an aerosol can. I guess when you sprayed it on and fluffed your hair, the talcum dried up the oil, and brushing your hair got rid of the oily talcum powder, leaving your hair less oily and smelling better. I think Mom bought it once. I tried it, and was underwhelmed by the results. But I bet some of you have used it…
I realize that has nothing to do with “psst! or any other attention-getting noise or word.” I just thought it was appropriate, plus I had the damn song stuck in my head.
I used to get phone calls from people selling auto insurance all the time. I already have auto insurance, but I get the calls anyway. Evidently someone likes to go around the Internet plugging my name and phone number into things. For a while, they were ordering pizzas from Pizza Hut and Papa John’s, then they figured out I had contacted my local restaurants and told them that if they get an order from me, it might not actually be me. So whoever it is (I have a very good idea who’s screwing around with me, so if any of you live in or around Brownsville, Texas, I’d like you to run an errand for me…) started instead giving my name and phone number to auto insurance agents. Now, if I don’t recognize a number, I won’t answer. If they want, they can leave me a message, and if it’s a robocaller, I report them on Truecaller as a spammer.
Anyway, I got a call from one person selling insurance who launched into her spiel, which I wasn’t interested in, so I tried to get her attention. I started with a polite “excuse me,” then a louder “EXCUSE ME,” then “HEY!”, then “HEY!” and finally “HEY!” She said, “That’s very rude, you know,” and hung up. I didn’t care. She had it coming.

Stream of Consciousness Saturday is brought to you each week by Linda Hill and this station. Now, a word about Jell-O Instant Pudding.
Looks like butterscotch… mmmmm…
I am getting tobs of the duct cleaning service. We’ve blocked so many numbers by now but they keep calling…like cockroaches. So etimes I have fun with them like repeating everything they say back to them. Last week, I spoke German and another time I just kept saying, “Pizza, Pizza”.
That hair commercial.. she can’t Sing! I have used just talcum powder in my hair and that works best of all.

Psssst! was essentially talcum powder mixed with alcohol and delivered in an aerosol can. The talcum powder probably did as good a job, if not better…

I’ve heard of Psssssst but I don’t remember trying it. There are dry shampoos on the market but none really seem to make your hair feel clean. I don’t answer my phone unless I know who it is. However, some of those pesky car warranty peeps have the gall to leave a message. ðŸ˜

I wasn’t exactly thrilled with the “clean” Pssssst! gave. In fact, it made me feel like I should wash my hair.
A lot of those Robocalls are set to play a recorded message the minute you (or your answering machine or voicemail) pick up. They don’t know they’re talking to voicemail, they just talk…

You were so rude John! Not her though calling you out of the blue interrupting you…that doesn’t count lol. I get those calls about an extended warrantee for my car…I let them talk and then they ask me what kind of car…I tell them oh sure happily…a 1973 Vega…they get off the phone quickly.
I never heard of this product before.

My brother had a 1973 Vega, and it was awful. He finally left it in the driveway, where it sort of disintegrated until Mom told him to get rid of it.

My sister always had a case of oil in the back of her Vega…I’m pretty sure it was a 73.

So did Jim. I think it had an aluminum engine that burned the oil up so quickly.

Yes it did…I was going to say that. For some odd reason I remember that when her boyfriends worked on the thing lol.

I reckon we can all live without instant shampoo John…
Excellent for dealing so well with the nuisance caller 💜

You still see dry shampoo some places, but I don’t think it sells well.

I have never heard of instant shampoo before … I guess there’s a reason it isn’t around now!

I think there are still one or two brands of them, but I don’t know anyone who uses them…
