I got the sad news yesterday that French-American singer and actor Robert Clary, who played Cpl. Louis LeBeau on the ’60’s sitcom Hogan’s Heroes, died yesterday at the age of 96. He was the last original cast member of the show (Kenneth Washington, who replaced Ivan Dixon in the show’s final season, is still alive, as far as I know). He was one of 14 children, ten of whom died in the Buchenwald Nazi concentration camp; word is that his life was spared because the guards liked his singing and dancing. He spent his later years painting and giving lectures on his amazing career and his days as a prisoner of the Nazis. This performance of “I’m in Love with Miss Logan” is from a 1960 episode of New Faces.
I was so sad to hear he passed away. I wanted him to live to be 100. He was small in stature but huge in heart, courage, and talent.

He was a lot like LeBeau, the character he played on Hogan’s Heroes. inside that sweet little man was the heart of a lion.
