Danny Kalb, lead guitarist and founder of the group The Blues Project, passed away this past Saturday at the age of 80. Danny influenced my playing and I learned a lot from listening to him play and by “playing along” with him on the records. This recording of Jimmy Reed’s “Caress Me, Baby” is from their 1966 album Projections.
This is a great song. Look how young they were and it looks so modern. I can’t imagine one of them being 80 never mi d dying…so sad.

Two of them are gone now (Kalb and bass player Andy Kuhlberg, who died a while ago), Al Kooper (keyboards) is still doing his thing, and Steve Katz (guitar and harmonica) and Roy Blumenfeld (drums) have re-formed the band with several young players.
