Jesse Colin Young, founder and lead singer of the 1960’s folk-rock group The Youngbloods, turns 81 today. Their one hit was “Get Together,” a song by Chet Powers, better known as Dino Valenti of Quicksilver Messenger Service. The Youngbloods released it first in 1967, when it reached #62 on the Hot 100. The National Conference on Christians and Jews ued it as background music for one of their public service announcements, which renewed interest in the song. Entering the charts in 1969, the song reached #5 on the Hot 100. It was The Youngbloods’ only hit.
This is a great song but I thought they would have had more hits. Interesting.

That’s probably why it’s familiar then. Thanks

It was, and still is, a great song. To think it owes a lot of its popularity to a commercial…

When my kids were growing up, my youngest daughter used to start singing this song whenever her older siblings started arguing.

Thanks for the reminder of a positive message. Amazing how taking a song and putting into any media can make such an impact! Give’s overlooked or forgotten songs a second chance. Kate Bush being a great recent example.

Especially in this day and age, when it seems everyone’s at each other’s throats, it’s good to remember that we share this big rock flying through space…
