Ragtime pianist and composer Scott Joplin was born on this day in 1868, as far as anyone can tell. He composed over 40 ragtime pieces, a ragtime ballet, and two operas, and is considered the "King of Ragtime." "Maple Leaf Rag" is the first and most influential hit of the genre. The person who posted this found a Pianola roll which had been misfiled in a box that came into his possession, and claims it was created by Joplin himself. This recording is a MIDI recreation of that piano roll.
Such a fun song.

Thanks! As Eubie Blake used to exclaim after playing a rag, “That’s RAGTIME!”
