MMMM: Xmas Music Xtravaganza 2022, Part 1!

Hello, hello, hello! Welcome to the first Monday’s Music Moves Me of December 2022, what I call the Xmas Music Xtravaganza! As I say every year, abbreviating Christmas as Xmas is not intended as any disrespect to Jesus, to God, or any of God’s people: The Greek letter chi looks like the letter X, as in Χριστός (pronounced Christos), the Greek spelling of Christ. X has been an abbreviation for Christ since the days of the early Church.

Now, having gotten that out of the way: I went back to 2018 and chose the third playlist I had built that year, replacing the two videos that had vanished over the years, and thus created this year’s first playlist. Yes, that’s right: since I figured I would be playing these this year anyway, I decided to get it out of the way early…

  1. Los Straitjackets, “Linus and Lucy” Maybe my favorite version of this, by Los Straitjackets, who do this a la surf.
  2. Fats Domino, “Frosty The Snowman” Eugenia suggested this one, and when I heard it I just had to put it in the list. Thanks, Eugenia!
  3. Seymour Swine and The Squeelers, “Blue Christmas” For Birgit, who said “you ought to include Porky Pig singing ‘Blue Christmas’.” I aim to please.
  4. Ray Stevens, “Santa Claus Is Watchin’ You” He’s ever’where! He’s ever’where!
  5. Thurl Ravenscroft, “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch” The voice of Tony The Tiger (spokestiger for Kellogg’s Sugar Frosted Flakes: “They’re GR-R-REAT!) does an extended version of this, from the TV special How The Grinch Stole Christmas.
  6. Joe Diffie, “Leroy The Redneck Reindeer” Jeff Foxworthy defines being a redneck as “having an elegant lack of sophistication.” So does this video.
  7. The Barking Dogs, “Jingle Bells” This came out in the late ’60’s or early ’70’s and it still cracks me up.
  8. Jimmy Buffett, “Mele Kalikimaka” For Lloyd, Pat, Liana and the rest of my Hawai’ian friends.
  9. "Christmas Kitty Song" I had saved this link a couple of years ago and just found it.
  10. Jingle Cats, "White Christmas" Bing Crosby is probably spinning in his grave.

And that’s Monday’s Music Moves Me for December 4, 2022.

Monday’s Music Moves Me is sponsored by Marie, Cathy, Alana, and Stacy, so be sure and visit them, where you can also find the Linky for the other participants.

  1. This was sure different. I haven’t heard the Porky Pig song in many years. I fell in instant love with the Los Straightjackets cover of Linus and Lucy. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard the full version of You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch – they’ve cut that classic cartoons into ribbons on network TV. Alana ramblinwitham

  2. Thank you so much for thinking about my fav…Porky singing Blue Christmas. That is a nice gift. I enjoyed listening to these and get a kick out of the digs and cats singing some favs. My dad loved the dog one and wanted to find the album. But my mom told him, ” don’t you dare” hahahA. I enjoyed the redneck reindeer. I may not always listen to it but it was fun. Reminded me of a song I sang at Christmas ( just to myself)…Randolph the Bald-headed Cowboy.”

  3. John,

You have a song for everyone – mom, dad, the kids, dogs, and cats. What a fun playlist! Thanks for joining the 4M party, my friend. Have a marvelous, magical Christmas season, my friend!
