Song of the Day: Fourplay, “Between The Sheets”

Session bassist and vocalist Nathan East is 67 years old today. Just off the top of my head, he’s backed guitarist Lari Basilio, Eric Clapton (on his Unplugged album), Barry White, Lee Ritenour, Patrice Rushen, Phil Collins, Herbie Hancock, Toto, and others. He’s a charter member of the smooth jazz group Fourplay (with Lee Ritenour, guitar; Bob James, keyboards; and Harvey Mason, drums). The Isley Brothers’ "Between The Sheets" is the title track from Fourplay’s second album (1993). Nathan East shares lead vocal duties with Chaka Khan, with backing vocals by Phillip Bailey, Chanté Moore, and Phil Perry.

  1. This song is not my cup of tea. I always think of a dripping wet rag. Dis you hear about Celine Dion? She has Stiff Person syndrome which is very rare and not curable. I read up on it…I feel bad for her.

    1. I wish Fourplay stuck to their instrumental stuff, but as we all know instrumentals make lousy singles. Still, I like that one…

Read about Celine earlier today. Tragic…
