Top Ten Tuesday: WPPA (1360 AM, Pottsville PA), 12/11/75

WPPA in Pottsville, Pennsylvania has been around since 1946 and has been owned by Pottsville Broadcasting Company the whole time. They have an FM station at 105.9 FM and are branded as “A-106.” They’re what’s called a full-service radio station, meaning they play music, run talk shows, carry a syndicated radio show (Dave Ramsey), and other programming of interest to the community they serve. Here’s their Top Ten from December 11, 1975.

  1. George Baker Selection, “Paloma Blanca”
  2. Bay City Rollers, “Saturday Night”
  3. Barry Manilow, “I Write The Songs”
  4. K.C. & The Sunshine Band, “That’s The Way (I Like It)”
  5. Silver Connection, “Fly, Robin, Fly”
  6. Jigsaw, “Sky High”
  7. David Geddes, “The Last Game Of The Season (The Blind Man In The Bleachers)”
  8. Elton John, “Island Girl”
  9. Morris Albert, “Feelings”
  10. Neil Sedaka with Elton John, “Bad Blood”

And that’s Top Ten Tuesday for December 13, 2022.

  1. I lovevthat 1st one and I thought it came out in the 50s not the 70s. I was away weddings back then and this always played. I have to say, I hate tgat song “feelings” because it was so overplayed that I wanted to hurl. Mind you this guy does a better job than many others did.

    1. I thought it might have been written in the ’50’s or so, but no, the “Paloma Blanca” in the survey is the original recording. I still remember Eddie Murphy as Buckwheat singing “Oona panoona banka…”

“Feelings” is, objectively, a very good song, but they played the hell out of it, which suited half the audience just fine and sent the rest of us running away…
