Singer, songwriter, record producer, arranger, pianist, and composer Thom Bell died on Thursday at the age of 79. He was a big component in creating the Philadelphia brand of soul music, primarily with The Delphonics, The Spinners, and The Stylistics. “Betcha By Golly, Wow” was written by Bell and Linda Creed. Connie Stevens recorded it in 1970 under its original title “Keep Growing Strong.” The Stylistics’ version was released in 1972 and reached #3 on the Hot 100, #2 on the Soul chart, and #7 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Billboard placed it at #18 on their year-end Hot 100.
This is a good one. Love those 70s soul songs.

This is Philly soul, as opposed to Motown or Memphis. Love the sound

Loved the choreography of the Stylistics too. Thanks, John, and Merry Christmas.

That’s why I try to use videos from Soul Train or The Midnight Special. The song is just one aspect of their performance, with the clothes and the moves being almost as important.
