A very happy 71st birthday to singer-songwriter Karla Bonoff. She’s not an artist with whom I’m all that familiar; I’ve seen her name and her music come up on a number of other blogs, but had never really heard her except for her biggest hit, "Personally," which reached #3 on the Adult Contemporary chart and #19 on the Hot 100 in 1982. Looks like I have some catching up to do…
My wife is a big fan of Karla Bonoff. We saw her perform at a small venue in Boston back in the 70s. She wrote a lot of great songs recorded by other female artists.

So I gather. She has a good voice, for certain…

Yes, she’s very talented and, I think, under appreciated.

I’m in the same spot, I recall reading the name as she wrote songs for several artists but I don’t remember this great tune! I thought it was Kenny Loggins in the video, turns out it’s Andrew Gold- they sort of looked a bit alike back then…maybe sort of?

She was in a band called Bryndle and Andrew was with them for a while. And it is a great tune; I didn’t know who sang it, but at the time I really didn’t care.

I really don’t recall it at all but she’s a talent. Guess the record executives were more interested in her writing. Of course who could compete with the likes of Lind Ronstadt and Bonnie Raitt.

Kind of like Laura Nyro. She was such a good songwriter that everyone forgot she could sing, too. The Fifth Dimension did a bunch of her songs…
