Henry John Deutschendorf Jr., better known as singer-songwriter John Denver, was bon on this day in 1943. He recorded and released aronund 300 songs, 200 of which he wrote himself, had 33 albums that were certified Gold or Platinum, hosted his own variety show and appeared in several specals, and co-starred with George Burns in the movie Oh God!. "Leaving On A Jet Plane" appeared on his 1966 demo John Denver Sings as "Babe I Hate To Go." It wasn’t until Peter, Paul, and Mary had a hit with it in 1969 that he recorded it for his first album.
In high school, I was a huge fan of John Denver, but I did not know he released 300 songs and 33 albums….. Such a loss, but I’m thankful we had him while we did.

It might be his most familiar even though Peter, Paul, and Mary had the big hit with it.
