The First Week That Was Of 2023

This edition of The Week That Was is brought to you by Crisco vegetable shortening. Food doesn’t taste greasy, even cold!

We bloggers tend to wish everyone a happy holiday (Christmas, New Year’s, Thanksgiving etc.) multiple times when we’re writing blog posts and commenting on everyone else’s blog. Ever notice that? Having said that,

I hope everybody’s holiday season was a good one. I know some of you spent it buried under snow and ice, maybe even without power. If you’re one of those people, I hope things get worked out very soon.

Things here at Chez Holton are nice and quiet. The kids are done with their fireworks and are probably watching TV, maybe all night. WGN used to run Marx Brothers all night on New Year’s Eve/Day, for everyone that didn’t leave the house and party. Which, when you think about it, is probably a lot more people than there used to be. Ed McMahon used to call New Year’s Eve “amateur night,” because more than a few people would go out and have a little too much champagne, then try to drive home.

One or more of the TV stations in many cities will send reporters to various watering holes and have them walk around and interview some of the revelers. Invariably, one of the questions is “What are your New Year’s Resolutions?” I always wanted to answer that with “I’m going to start smoking and put on weight.”

I’m not one for making resolutions, because I have a brain like a sieve when it comes to things like that, and any resolutions I make are almost immediately forgotten.

    My resolution is to eat better and get in better shape…we will see how that goes.
