Singer Sandy Denny was born on this day in 1947. As lead singer for the folk-rock band Fairport Convention, she was described as “the pre-eminent British folk-rock singer.” Hers was a hard life, marked with alcohol and drug abuse, possibly as a self-treatment for bipolar disorder, and she died in 1978 at the age of just 31. “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” was a song written by Bob Dylan for the 1973 movie Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid.
She was wonderful.

This is a new-to-me-rendition of ‘Knocking on Heaven’s Door’. Wow. I also didn’t realize Bob Dylan had written the song for the movie ‘Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid’. A version of the song that was powerful for me is Eric Clapton singing it at the end scene in ‘Lethal Weapon 2’.

You can really feel her emotion in this version.I think she believes she is knocking on Heaven’s door. Sad she had to go so soon.

The search for internal peace can take us down some dangerous roads. It certainy did for her. Tragic.

Doesn’t it, though? Dylan’s version wasn’t very clear. This one is. She had the perfect voice for it.
