Happy 85th birthday to singer Jack Jones. He’s the son of singer Allan Jones and actress Irene Hervey, and has recorded some 50 albums since 1959. He did the original theme for the TV show The Love Boat and is still active as a performer, particularly in Las Vegas, where his career began. “The Race Is On” reached #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart and #15 on the Hot 100 in 1965.
I remember liking the cover by the country group Sawyer Brown, and the one by George Jones. Don’t think I’ve heard this one before.

I had forgotten that Jack did this version of it. It’s more a country song, but he did a good job of it.

We had a Christmas album he did–it was hard for me to tell him from Andy Williams back then. Didn’t know he did this song. Wasn’t it Buck Owens or some country singer George Jones? Seems like.

Right, George Jones (no relation) did the song for the country chart. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dj7ahuCHGbM
Jack and Andy sound enough alike that they could be family. Not brothers, more like cousins… đŸ˜›
