Happy 64th to Helen Folasade Adu, who goes by the name Sade, also the name of her band. She’s a singer, songwriter, actress, producer, and at one time a model. She wrote “Your Love Is King” with Stuart Matthewman, and it was her lead single in the UK from their 1984 debut album Diamond Life, where it reached #6. In the US, it was their third single, released in June 1985. It reached #54 on the Hot 100, #35 on the Hot Black Singles chart, and #8 on the Adult Contemporary chart. This performance is from the 1985 Live Aid concert.
Can’t believe she is 64. Still, a kid as far as I’m concerned, but seems almost impossible.

She’s still quite young-looking and her voice hasn’t changed too much…

We actually saw her in person several years ago. Right after the Soldier of Love album came out. She was amazing BUT came out an hour late and we had to leave before the encore or we’d have missed our BART train home. Would see her again though, just make sure we had a good way home!

As I recall, she had some personal issues around that time. There was one show where she was an hour late, then departed in the middle of the first song. I think the best way to see her is on a video.

Wow. I’d have been a little upset by that. I know she doesn’t tour often so maybe that’s why.

Hi John – she’s an amazing talent – I love hearing her sing, also watching her perform (on the tv I’m afraid!) on the occasions I’ve caught her … cheers Hilary

That’s the only way I’ve seen her. She has an exquisite voice.

She has a great, sultry, sensual but classy voice. We have a couple of her CDs. What I love is this is Aung live and her voice is the same as on a CD.
