Singer and songwriter Bobby Goldsboro turns 82 today. He’s had three gold records in his career: 1963’s “Funny Little Clown,” 1968’s “Honey,” and 1970’s “Watching Scotty Grow,” a tune written by Mac Davis. He reached #11 on the Hot 100, #7 on the Country chart, and #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart.
It has a bit of country but also folk which I prefer. This is a wonderful song.

I loved that song. And mostly I loved Mac Davis. I loved his show. I thought he was really funny and cute.

It’s a shame that the variety shows have all gone away. There were so many great ones, his included.

His songs were so depressing 😭😭

Just the ones that were hits. He was actually a pretty funny guy.

His music was syrupy sweet, IMO.

I used to see him on Johnny Carson all the time, and he did a few of his non-hits that were really good. And he’s a funny guy. But his hits were all the sappy songs.

I remember this one. The song of his that gets me is “Honey” because I used to hear it a lot after my mom died. Ugh. He became an oil painter in his retirement years in Florida.

Do you remember him on Johnny Carson? He’d go on there, sing some upbeat songs, and have everyone in stitches. That never came through in his hits.

I don’t remember that. I tried to find some clips on YouTube but no luck.

Trust me, he was good and nowhere near as morose as he came off in his hits….

Cloyingly sweet as were all of Bobby’s songs. Never became a favorite.

I think that was his record company choosing his material.
