Song of the Day: Janis Joplin and Tom Jones, “Raise Your Hand”

Today would be singer Janis Joplin’s 80th birthday. I remember when she died: I was just getting over Jimi Hendrix’s death two weeks before. I was 14 and just started high school… Janis had a great voice, and she really threw herself into her performances. I think that was what I liked about her. One such performance was on the show This Is Tom Jones in 1969, where the two of them sang “Raise Your Hand” together. Just watch…

  1. It doesn’t compute in my head but it’s there. I like odd combinations like this. On the Dick Cavett show Janis was on there with Raquel Welch which just didn’t seem right but it was great.

  2. Wow!! I love it! Those 2 were powerful together and with the horns and drums..amazing work. I can’t believe she would be 80 had she lived. They knew how to party down. Look at the dancers and how they grooved
