Bluesman “Sleepy” John Estes was born on this day in 1899. He was an influence on Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, and John Lennon of The Beatles. He frequently played with Yank Rachell on mandolin and Hammie Nixon on harmonica, kazoo, and jug. Here are John and Hammie from a performance in 1976.
Classic, John.

That’s some serious blues and a classic song. I don’t recall Hammie at all, he’s got the chops for sure.

wcflchicago.com plays Ray Peterson’s version quite a bit, and it’s my favorite. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouanlAQ-QXg) But I still love Hammie’s harmonica and vocals on this one.

I had never heard that! Definitely sounds like something from 1960.
