Five For Friday: Jerome Kern and Dorothy Fields

Composer Jerome Kern worked with many lyricists in his career, including Oscar Hammerstein II, Johnny Mercer, Yip Harburg, P. G. Wodehouse, Otto Harbach, Ira Gershwin, and others. Similarly, Dorothy Fields wrote lyrics for songs by Sigmund Romberg, Jimmy McHugh, Cy Coleman, and others. Today, we’ll feature songs by Kern with lyrics by Fields.

  1. Fred Astaire, "The Way You Look Tonight" (from Swing Time, 1936)
  2. Nat King Cole with George Shearing, "Pick Yourself Up" (from Swing Time)
  3. Hildegarde, "I Dream Too Much" (from I Dream Too Much, 1935)
  4. Ela Fitzgerald, "Remind Me" (from One Night In The Tropics, 1940)
  5. Margaret Whiting, "You Couldn’t Be Cuter" (from Joy Of Living, 1938)

And that’s Five For Friday for January 27, 2023.
