Five For Friday: Burt Bacharach and…

We lost a giant in the world of music, Burt Bacharach, the other day. As a tribute, here are five songs written by Burt with lyricists other than Hal David, since I featured his work with Hal here.

  1. Christopher Cross, “Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do)” – 1981, lyrics by Christopher Cross, Carole Bayer Sager, and Peter Allen
  2. The Beatles, “Baby It’s You” – 1961, lyrics by Mack David (Hal’s older brother) and Luther Dixon
  3. Patti LaBelle and Michael McDonald, “On My Own” – 1986, lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager
  4. Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach, “Toledo” – 1998, lyrics by Elvis Costello
  5. The New Christy Minstrels, “Three Wheels On My Wagon” – 1961, lyrics by Bob Hilliard

And that’s Five For Friday, February 10, 2023.

    1. He was immensely talented and had a huge impact on music. He left a huge catalog of songs he wrote behind, and should be remembered the way we remember Bach and Beethoven.

  1. Hi John – I must say … it’s great having so many of his songs being played – just sad he’s died, but what a legacy. Cheers Hilary

  2. He knew how to write accessible songs. His songs cross over genres…he also married Angie Dickinson…so he had it all!
