We lost a giant in the world of music, Burt Bacharach, the other day. As a tribute, here are five songs written by Burt with lyricists other than Hal David, since I featured his work with Hal here.
- Christopher Cross, “Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do)” – 1981, lyrics by Christopher Cross, Carole Bayer Sager, and Peter Allen
- The Beatles, “Baby It’s You” – 1961, lyrics by Mack David (Hal’s older brother) and Luther Dixon
- Patti LaBelle and Michael McDonald, “On My Own” – 1986, lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager
- Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach, “Toledo” – 1998, lyrics by Elvis Costello
- The New Christy Minstrels, “Three Wheels On My Wagon” – 1961, lyrics by Bob Hilliard
And that’s Five For Friday, February 10, 2023.
You hear his most famous songs from the late 60s and 70s but I never knew tgat last song nor the one the Bestles did. He was a great talent

He was immensely talented and had a huge impact on music. He left a huge catalog of songs he wrote behind, and should be remembered the way we remember Bach and Beethoven.

Hi John – I must say … it’s great having so many of his songs being played – just sad he’s died, but what a legacy. Cheers Hilary

He had a lot of songs to play. We’ll be playing Burt Bacharach songs forever, I think…

I’d rather remember that he lived and created so much great music.

He knew how to write accessible songs. His songs cross over genres…he also married Angie Dickinson…so he had it all!

Yes she was… I say that about George…he lived a short life but he was a Beatle and married Patti Boyd…life was good.
