Love Is In Da Blog: Roger Whittaker, “The Last Farewell” #LoIsInDaBl23

I pull this out pretty often, and since today is a "choose your own" day, I’m pulling it out again, because I love it.

The lyrics are by a silversmith from Birmingham, England, by the name of Ron A. Webster, who sent it to singer Roger Whittaker, who at the time was running a radio program out of the UK where he would take listener poems and set them to music. Roger recorded it for his 1971 album New World In The Morning (called A Special Kind Of Man in the US and Canada). The wife of the program director at WGST in Atlanta (playing music at the time) heard the song while she was traveling in Canada in 1975, and suggested that they play the song. Response was overwhelming, and Roger had a hit on his hands that, as a single, has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide. From 1971, Rogert Whittaker, "The Last Farewell."
