Singer, actor, lecturer, painter, and concentration camp survivor Robert Clary would have been 97 years old today (he died on November 22 of last year). As a young man, Clary was sent to the Buchenwald concentration camp. He avoided being killed because the guards at the camp liked his singing and dancing so much. He came to the United States in 1949 and first appeared on TV on The Ed Wynn Show in a French language skit. He was offered the role of Cpl. Louis LeBeau on the CBS sitcom Hogan’s Heroes in 1965 and stayed with the show until it ended in 1971. He appeared in several World War II themed movies as well as the soap operas The Young And The Restless, The Bold And The Beautiful, and Days Of Our Lives. This performance of "Lucky Pierre" was taken from a 1960 adaptation of New Faces. The tall actress on the left is Inga Swenson, who later appeared on Soap and Benson. One of the other two women (I think the taller) is Virginia de Luce, who appeared on Broadway in a number of productions. The third woman is singer, songwriter and actress June Carroll, who wrote the songs "Love Is A Simple Thing," "Penny Candy," and many others.
Many of the actors playing the Germans were hurt by the Nazi regime and placed in camps or they escaped before everything went down. I was very sad when Clary died even though he had a nice long life.
Inga played Hoss Cartwright’s mother. I wonder if the other lady is Imogene Coca?

Found her! It’s singer and songwriter June Carroll. There’s a picture of her here: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/8819943/june-carroll
Werner Klemperer, John Banner and Leon Askin all served in the US Army. Klemperer was with the Army’s Special Services unit as an entertainer; Banner and Askin were both sergeants. Banner was on a recruiting poster, in fact (I can’t find it now). Howard Caine, also a Jewish actor playing a Nazi (SS Major Hochstetter) served in the Navy. He was from Tennessee and was a champion banjo player…
