Song of the Day: Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys, “San Antonio Rose”

Western Swing pioneer Bob Wills was born on this day in 1905. He influenced people like Buck Owens and Merle Haggard, who would go on to develop the Bakersfield Sound. "San Antonio Rose" is from 1941.

  1. San Antonio Rose is the first song I learned to play on the harmonica. I associate Slim Whitman singing this song over Bob Wills. I think that was because we had Slim Whitman (vinyl) records and not Bob Wills records.

  3. Could any recording be more perfect for the AM radios of the day with the signal blasting through distant thunderstorms? Bob Wills got great mileage out the song for years.
