Happy St. Patrick’s Day! How about a little Bing Crosby to set the mood? "Too-Ra-Loo-Ra-Loo-Ral (Thats An Irish Lullaby)" was written by James Royce Shannon in 1913 for the Tin Pan Alley musical Shameen Dhu. Chauncey Olcott was the first singer to record it, and it was a #1 hit for him. The song was revived for the 1944 movie Going My Way, which starred Bing Crosby and Barry Fitzgerald.
Love, love, love this song ever since I heard it on the film, “Going My Way.”

That and “The Bells of St. Mary’s” were tremendous movies. Unrealistic as heck, but who cares? Fr. Chuck is the priest you would like all of them to be like. Too bad there were just the two films with him.

I remember this from the Steve Martin movie Housesitter. Can’t beat a bit of Bing though John.

That last scene, where the old priest’s mother shows up at Christmas Mass, gets me every time.

I almost used that one. That’s an old favorite that I haven’t used in a few years. This was the last time: https://thesoundofonehandtyping.com/2019/09/22/song-lyric-sunday-who-threw-the-overalls-in-mrs-murphys-chowder/
Naturally, the video’s no longer there….

I’ve always liked this song, and the movie Going My Way

The movie was fantastic. It was nominated for 10 Academy Awards and won 7, and I think “Swinging on A Star” was one of the winners. The end, when the mother shows up… I choke up just thinking about it…
