Song of the Day: Son House, “Walking Blues”

Blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist Son House was born on this day in 1902. Originally a preacher and opposed to playing secular music, he started playing the blues when he was 25 and learned to blend the intensity and vocal cadences of preaching with his singing. Muddy Waters emulated his style when he started out. "Walking Blues" was written by House and is a blues standard.

    1. For certain. I heard that Keith Richards first met Mick Jagger on the bus, and when Mick found out that Keith had a Muddy Waters album, they got together and listened to it all the time. “Rolling Stone” was a song by Robert Johnson that Muddy played, and that’s where they got the name…
