Happy 78th birthday to Ritchie Blackmore, lead guitarist for Deep Purple and Blackmore’s Rainbow. Deep Purple’s 1972 album Machine Head was their sixth, and contained their iconic hit, "Smoke On The Water," which told the story of making the album using The Rolling Stones’ Mobile Studio and the problems they encountered when the Montreux Casino they had booked to record the album burned down. "Highway Star" is the lead track on the album and has some incredible guitar playing.
I’d recognize this from the opening i no time at all. Great choice, John.

Glad you like it! “Smoke on the Water” gets all the play but this is the best song on the album IMHO.

Nice trip down concert-going memory lane. 😉 Love Deep Purple.

They’re one of the better hard-rock bands to come out of that era.

I’ve always liked that song. We bought the album when it came out, while we were living in Germany. :)
