WORL in Boston is now WROL, a religious broadcaster, "The Spirit of Boston," simulcasting on 100.3 FM. They were a Top 40 station from 1950 to 1966. Here’s their Top Ten from April 14, 1956, when I was less than a month old…
10 – The Diamonds, “The Church Bells May Ring”
9 – Bing Crosby & The Buddy Cole Trio, “In A Little Spanish Town”
8 – Joni James, “I Woke Up Crying”
7 – Dick Jacobs & His Orchestra, “Man With The Golden Arm Theme”
6 – Perry Como, “Hot Diggity (Dog Ziggity Boom)”
5 – Buddy Johnson & His Orchestra, “I Don’t Want Nobody”
4 – Lonnie Donegan, “Rock Island Line”
3 – The Four Esquires, “Look Homeward Angel”
2 – The Four Voices, “Lovely One”
1 – Carl Perkins, “Blue Suede Shoes”
If you’d like a playlist, you can find it here. That’s Top Ten Tuesday for April 18, 2023.
I love “Blue Suede Shoes,” both the Carl Perkins and the Elvis Presley versions.

Oddly enough, the only ones I know are “Hot Diggity (Dog Ziggity Boom)” – “Rock Island Line” and “Blue Suede Shoes” – I attribute that to my parents playing them.
