Singer, actor, and musician Benjamin "Scatman" Crothers was born on this day in 1910. He was on TV a lot in the ’70’s on shows like Chico And The Man and Sanford and Son and was a frequent guest on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. "September Song" is from his 1998 (posthumous) album Oh Yeah!
Always loved this song. Great version. Loved Willie Nelson’s album Stardust. So great.

My favorite is Jimmy Durante’s. He can’t sing to save his life, but for some reason he’s perfect for it.

I never knew he could sing. I love this actor.

Why did you think they called him Scatman? He was a fantastic scat singer (not as good as Ella, but then, who is?) and I think he played tenor guitar. And he was a great actor, and a genuinely funny guy. I used to see him on The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson.

It’s a great song, albeit melancholy. Glad you liked this one!

He was a real character but a legit talent. Great tune!

Seems I recall he played the ukulele or the tenor guitar as well. Definitely a talented guy, and funny…
